WHEREAS, nearly 600 residents of Nevada are currently on the national organ transplant list, waiting for their second chance at life; and

WHEREAS, 62% of Nevadans over the age of 18 are registered organ donors; and

WHEREAS, the commitment of a single individual to register as an donor can one day save up to 8 lives as an organ donor and up to 75 lives as a tissue donor; and

WHEREAS, across the Silver State, Nevada State Police and Nevada Donor Network have coordinated with more than 20 law enforcement and emergency medical services agencies to launch the ‘You Don’t Have to Wear a Badge to be a Hero’ campaign; and

WHEREAS, the goal of this united effort is to encourage the public to be heroes by registering to become organ and tissue donors to save and heal lives; and

WHEREAS, Donate Life Month is nationally recognized, and an opportunity to educate individuals about organ and tissue donation, and is a time to offer thanks and appreciation to the donors and families of donors who have selflessly given someone a second chance of life;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim April 2022 as

DONATE LIFE MONTH IN NEVADA
