WHEREAS, child welfare professionals work tirelessly investigating child abuse, connecting families to resources, determining appropriate placements, supporting the transition into adulthood, providing the necessary services for family reunification, and responding around the clock to emergencies; and

WHEREAS, child welfare professionals in administrative positions are dedicated to ensuring that programs, funding, administrative duties, policies, procedures, data, quality, and oversight are occurring to ensure that caseworkers and social workers have the tools they need to support children; and

WHEREAS, Nevada receives more than 35,000 referrals of child abuse and neglect, investigates 42% of those referrals, and cares for over 4,000 children and youth in care per year; and

WHEREAS, child welfare professionals must develop great skills in working with families in crisis and facing difficult issues; and

WHEREAS, child welfare professionals must learn, have the knowledge and skill surrounding the rights of families, and understand federal and state laws about child welfare and the legal processes governing the child welfare system; and

WHEREAS, child welfare professionals selflessly undertake the endeavor to protect Nevada children, often with risks to their safety, low pay, long hours, tremendous demands, little appreciation, and great criticism, and with dramatic impacts on their personal life; and

WHEREAS, on behalf of all Nevadans, we offer our deepest thanks and appreciation to Nevada's child welfare professionals for their commitment to this difficult, often thankless job and offer this as a time to reflect on the positive impact on the lives of the children and families you serve;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of September 12 -18, 2022, as
