WHEREAS, on November 29, 2021, Nevada Baha’is will observe the 100th anniversary of the passing of Abdu’l-Baha, the global leader of the Baha’i faith; and

WHEREAS, Abdu’l-Baha was beloved by thousands, many who were not Baha’is but who were the beneficiaries of his kindness, wisdom, and generosity; and

WHEREAS, Abdu’l-Baha’s funeral was attended by more than 10,000 people who followed the coffin for two hours up to Mt. Carmel to his burial site; and

WHEREAS, after his death in the city of Haifa, on November 27, 1921, telegrams transmitted the news of the death of Abdu’l-Baha around the world, and several leaders including former Prime Minister Winston Churchill sent messages of condolences; and

WHEREAS, Abdu’l-Baha traveled across America in 1912 with a message of America’s spiritual destiny: to lead the way toward world peace, advance women’s rights, abolish racism, and eliminate extremes of wealth and poverty; and

WHEREAS, the “Prophet of Peace” traveled to 50 U.S. and Canadian cities, giving more than 140 public talks and he was acclaimed in hundreds of publications for his uplifting message for mankind; and

WHEREAS, this year on November 24, Nevada Baha’is will join Baha’is around the world to celebrate Abdu’l-Baha’s station within their faith on the “Day of the Covenant” to celebrate the contributions of Abdu’l-Baha to the world and Baha’is in Nevada;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim November 24, 2021, as

THE DAY OF THE COVENANT IN NEVADA
