
WHEREAS, family is the primary source of love, identity, self-esteem, and support for children and adults, and this bond provides nurturing and security that is critical for personal growth and development; and
WHEREAS, whenever possible and without sacrificing a child's safety, the reunification of Nevada's families is the best and preferred outcome for a permanent, safe, and loving home for children placed in foster care; and
WHEREAS, each year, hundreds of parents work hard through the child welfare process to improve and grow and successfully reunify with their children; and
WHEREAS, 1,597 children in Nevada were reunified with their parent or legal guardians in 2020; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the courage and perseverance of parents and legal guardians that have engaged in a journey of healing and transformation so that their child can thrive; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the significant roles, efforts, and commitment of child welfare staff, foster parents, service provides, attorneys, Judges, and the community to break down barriers and help Nevada's families heal; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada and urges all citizens, community agencies, religious organizations, businesses, and partners to recognize and support families who have successfully reunified with their children, and the families currently working through the process, to raise awareness about the importance of family reunification for a child in foster care;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2021, as
