
WHEREAS, Public Schools Week is recognized as a time to celebrate our public schools, honor those who work in our public schools to ensure Nevada’s students receive an excellent public education, and promote the principle that public education is a pillar of our democracy and vital for our future; and
WHEREAS, Public Schools Week is an opportunity for administrators, educators, school board trustees, community members, students, and parents to engage with their communities and reach out to lawmakers, businesses, and stakeholders regarding the importance of a strong public education system; and
WHEREAS, the need for a strong public education system is a nonpartisan issue and public education is delineated as a right under Article XI of the Nevada Constitution; and
WHEREAS, every student has the right to an education that helps them reach their full potential and attend schools that offer high-quality educational experiences and opportunities regardless of their zip code; and
WHEREAS, Pre-K–12 public schools should foster inclusive, safe, and personalized learning environments where students can learn to think critically, problem solve, and build relationships; and
WHEREAS, effective two-way engagement between families and public schools improves student outcomes, inspires future leaders, and contributes to the citizenry of our country; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada recognizes partnerships between public schools, business and industry, and local communities as essential for the future economic development and long-term competitiveness of our state; and
WHEREAS, public education requires the support and investment of our local and state elected officials to provide adequate funding to ensure strong educational outcomes for all of Nevada’s students;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of February 22-26, 2021, as
PUBLIC SCHOOLS WEEK IN NEVADA
