WHEREAS, Pitt Hopkins Syndrome is a rare and severe neurological disorder caused by a variation or deletion of the TCF4 Gene, located on the 18th Chromosome; and

WHEREAS, Pitt Hopkins Syndrome is characterized by cognitive impairments and developmental delays, breathing problems, recurrent seizures/epilepsy, gastrointestinal issues, lack of speech and distinctive facial features; and

WHEREAS, over 1,000 people worldwide have been diagnosed with Pitt Hopkins Syndrome impacting lives around the world; and

WHEREAS, Pitt Hopkins families celebrate International Pitt Hopkins Syndrome Day on September 18th to raise awareness for Pitt Hopkins research; and

WHEREAS, Nevadans with loved ones who have been diagnosed with Pitt Hopkins Syndrome join international organizations who are dedicated to finding a cure for Pitt Hopkins Syndrome through research, education and advocacy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim September 18, 2021, as

PITT HOPKINS SYNDROME AWARENESS DAY IN NEVADA
