WHEREAS, falls are a threat to the health of older adults and can reduce their ability to remain independent; and

WHEREAS, each year, millions of older adults, those age 60 and older, experience falls which ultimately impact their ability to remain independent; and

WHEREAS, in Nevada more than one out of every four older adults fall each year. Typically, less than half of those individuals who fall share their incident with their doctor and falling just once doubles an individual’s chances of falling again; and

WHEREAS, more than 95% of hip fractures are caused by falling and falls are the most common cause of traumatic brain injuries for older adults; and

WHEREAS, even for older adults, there are proven ways to reduce and prevent falls; and

WHEREAS, in Nevada evidence-based workshops are held to assist older people in creating an individualized action plan to stay on their feet, reduce their risks of falls, and live their best life;
