
WHEREAS, neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) often develop into cancer and if left untreated, can result in serious illness and death; and
WHEREAS, NET cancer patients are often misdiagnosed or receive a delayed diagnosis, which can have a negative impact on their chance of survival and quality of life; and
WHEREAS, survival for NET cancer patients is further compromised by fragmented care and lack of access to treatment by networks of specialists; and
WHEREAS, although there have been advances in the detection and treatment of NET cancers, not all patients are benefiting quickly enough from scientific and medical progress in the field; and
WHEREAS, with timely diagnosis and proper treatment, NET cancer patients in the Silver State and across the nation can have significantly improved outcomes and quality of life; and
WHEREAS, patients, family, friends, caregivers and healthcare professionals come together on Neuroendocrine Tumor Cancer Awareness Day to raise awareness about NET cancers, the need for timely diagnosis and access to optimal treatment and care; and
WHEREAS, I am proud to join the NET community in shining a light on this condition that impacts so many Nevadans, and am committed to providing a community of support for those impacted as we work toward finding a cure for NET;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim November 10, 2021, as
NEUROENDOCRINE TUMORS CANCER AWARENESS DAY IN NEVADA
