WHEREAS, October 2021 marks the 76th anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month; and

WHEREAS, the purpose of National Disability Employment Awareness Month is to educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, in the economic expansion prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were 177,702 working-age people with disabilities living in Nevada and our State had a 40.3 percent disability employment rate; and

WHEREAS, our communities and our economy are at their best when all people, including people with disabilities, can earn an income and become independent, just like anyone else; and

WHEREAS, activities during this month will reinforce the value and talent people with disabilities add to our workplaces and communities and affirm Nevada's commitment to an inclusive community that increases access and opportunities to all, including people with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Nevada calls upon employers, schools, and other community organizations in the Silver State to observe October with appropriate programs and activities, and to advance its important message that people with disabilities add value and talent to our workplaces and communities; and

WHEREAS, Nevada pledges to continue to take steps throughout the year to recruit, hire, retain, and advance people with disabilities and work to pursue the goals of opportunity, full participation, economic self-sufficiency, and independent living for people with disabilities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2021, as

NATIONAL DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
