Seal of the State of Nevada

WHEREAS, the fight for equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people is reflected in the unwavering dedication of those who work to build a more inclusive society; and

WHEREAS, June 28, 1969 was a turning point in the fight for equality, when the LGBT community rose up during the Stonewall Riots in New York City to resist harassment which precipitated the modern fight for LGBT rights; and

WHEREAS, LGBT pride celebrations take place across the country every June to commemorate the beginning of the Stonewall Riots, and throughout the month memorials are also held to honor and remember the lives of those who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS; and

WHEREAS, Nevada is committed to diversity and prevention of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and the LGBT community has the right to feel safe and not live in fear, and is an important part of the Nevada family; and

WHEREAS, the Silver State is committed to equality and the month of June is an opportunity to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had and will continue to have on our state and nation, and a time to reflect on the progress that has been made, while focusing on the steps that can still be taken to eliminate prejudice and exclusion, celebrate diversity and create a more inclusive society for all;
