
WHEREAS, Nevada has a rich and storied tradition of hunting and angling; and
WHEREAS, National Hunting and Fishing Day was established in 1972 to recognize hunters and anglers for their contributions to conservation and education efforts; and
WHEREAS, Nevada's sportsmen and women supported the establishment of Nevada's Department of Wildlife with the goal of conserving fish and wildlife habitats; and
WHEREAS, through license fees and self-imposed excise taxes on firearms and ammunition, fishing tackle and motorboat fuels, sportsmen and women primarily fund the Nevada Department of Wildlife's efforts through the American System of Conservation Funding; and
WHEREAS, in 2020, Nevada's 173,597 hunters and anglers generated over $15 million dollars to support the conservation efforts of the Nevada Department of Wildlife; and
WHEREAS, Nevada’s sportsmen and women join the Nevada Department of Wildlife in their mission to protect, conserve, manage, and restore wildlife and its habitat for the aesthetic, scientific, educational, and economic benefits to Nevadans and citizens of the United States;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim September 25, 2021, as
HUNTING & FISHING DAY IN NEVADA
