WHEREAS, Nevada recognizes that all K-12 students deserve equitable access to a high-quality, engaging, and rigorous financial literacy instruction; and

WHEREAS, Nevada, as a national leader in financial literacy education through a concerted effort of the Nevada Department of Education and others, understands the need to prepare our K-12 students with foundational financial decision-making skills, regardless of their age, race, gender, disability, socioeconomic status, or what school they attend, so they all graduate high school life, work, civic and community ready; and

WHEREAS, Nevada recognizes financial literacy education as a necessary future ready skill for the economic, social, and global development for long-term competitiveness of our state; and

WHEREAS, Nevada recognizes that being financially literate in today's society means that our students are prepared to be creators of their own financial future, not just bystanders of it; and

WHEREAS, Nevada statute affirms our commitment to supporting our educators and institutions of higher education in developing high-quality standards, instruction, and training in financial literacy, to include financial decision making, saving and spending, credit and debit, insurance, risk, investing, and college and career readiness; and

WHEREAS, Financial Literacy Month evolved from The National Endowment for Financial Education for Youth and is fully supported through joint resolutions of the United States Congress, U.S Department of Education, and other Financial Literacy Education advocates;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim April 2021 as

FINANCIAL LITERACY MONTH IN NEVADA
