
WHEREAS, across Nevada, abundant forms of energy including solar, geothermal, wind, and hydro are powering more homes and businesses than ever before; and
WHEREAS, Nevada ranks fourth in the nation in installed solar capacity, and energy from solar power provides approximately 12 percent electricity generated in the state, with new solar projects being regularly developed; and
WHEREAS, Nevada has a first-of-its-kind hybrid geothermal-solar power plant, which combines geothermal power with solar photovoltaic and solar thermal generation; and
WHEREAS, Nevada's energy sector is strong thanks to abundant renewable energy resources, modern infrastructure, and incentives that attract energy developers from around the world; and
WHEREAS, the clean energy sector is a growing part of the economy and has been a driver of economic growth in Nevada as the number of jobs in the clean energy sector increase; and
WHEREAS, climate change is impacting all Nevadans, our infrastructure, public health, economy, and ecosystems; and
WHEREAS, adoption of clean energy and transportation electrification are critical to reaching Nevada’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, and thus our climate action goals; and
WHEREAS, Clean Energy Week is an opportunity to support solutions that address America's economic and energy needs in the 21st century, and we must harness the power of Nevada entrepreneurs and small businesses and ensure government collaboration to assert American energy leadership in the global marketplace and assure low-cost reliable energy to all;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of September 20 - 24, 2021, as
CLEAN ENERGY WEEK IN NEVADA
