WHEREAS, Chronic disease - such as asthma, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, chronic lower respiratory disease, and chronic liver disease/cirrhosis- are among Nevada’s most common, costly, and preventable health problems; and

WHEREAS, Chronic diseases account for 7 of the top 10 causes of premature death in Nevadans and throughout the United States, and treating people with chronic diseases accounts for the majority of our nation’s health care costs; and

WHEREAS, Chronic Disease Awareness Day promotes best practices and actionable resources to reduce individual risk and lower the rate of chronic disease in America; and

WHEREAS, Chronic Disease Awareness Day takes place on July 10th, 2021 to raise public awareness about preventable chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes; and

WHEREAS, Chronic Disease Awareness Day works to raise awareness about opportunities to improve individuals’ overall quality of life, lower overall health care costs through actionable resources and support positive practices for well-being; and

WHEREAS, The State of Nevada commends the many organizations, groups, agencies, and individuals working to increase awareness, provide education, encourage prevention, and promote accessible health care to reduce the prevalence and manage chronic disease in communities throughout the state; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the day of July 10, 2021 as
