WHEREAS, September 6, 2011, was a tragic day in the history of the Silver State when four citizens were killed and seven injured due to a senseless act of violence at the International House of Pancakes restaurant in Carson City, Nevada; and

WHEREAS, the deceased included one local citizen and three uniformed Citizen-Soldiers on duty in the Nevada Army National Guard, including Florence Donovan-Gunderson, 67; Master Sgt. Christian Riege, 38; Lt. Col. Heath Kelly, 35; and Sgt. 1st Class Miranda McElhiney, 31; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada National Guard continues to commemorate and remember the victims each year with events held across the state in cities including Carson City and Las Vegas and by Nevada Guard Soldiers and Airmen around the globe during deployment; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada and all its residents continue to offer our deepest and most sincere condolences to the families, friends and all those who knew and loved the innocent victims killed or injured during this devastating attack, and will forever be grateful for the law enforcement officers, first responders, counselors and volunteers who supported the Capital City community in the wake of the shooting; and

WHEREAS, we vow to never forget the lives lost and the pain incurred by the Capital City community and pledge to continue to support the families and friends impacted as a result of the deadly shooting and are proud of the strength and resiliency the Carson City community has displayed in the past decade as its healing continues; and

WHEREAS, September 6, 2021, marks the 10th anniversary of the fatal shooting, we remember the innocent lives lost and reflect upon the resiliency and strength of the Carson City community and all Nevadans;
