
WHEREAS, ensuring the safety of Nevada’s young learners is of utmost importance and all members of the school community have a duty to create and provide a safe and respectful learning environment for students that is free of bullying and cyber-bullying; and
WHEREAS, bullying and cyber-bullying interfere with a person’s rights by creating an intimidating or hostile educational environment for the person; and
WHEREAS, bullying and cyber-bulling also interfere with the academic performance of a pupil or the ability of the student to participate in or benefit from services, activities or privileges provided by a school; and
WHEREAS, a learning environment that is safe and respectful is essential for all students, staff and families, and it is necessary for those pupils to achieve success and meet our state’s high academic standards; and
WHEREAS, students, parents, educators, and community members have a role to play in ensuring that Nevada is known as a place where bullying will not be tolerated, and Week of Respect reminds us all to remain respectful of others;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of October 5 - 9, 2020 as
WEEK OF RESPECT IN NEVADA
