WHEREAS, in 2020, an estimated 57,600 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States and 47,050 will die from the disease, according to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network; and

WHEREAS, pancreatic cancer is the 3rd leading cause of cancer related deaths in the United States, and each person’s chances of getting this cancer can be affected by certain risk factors such as tobacco use, being overweight, family history and inherited genetic syndromes; and

WHEREAS, early pancreatic cancers often do not cause any signs or symptoms, making it difficult to diagnose until it has grown very large or already spread outside the pancreas; and

WHEREAS, during the month of November, we focus our efforts on raising awareness of pancreatic cancer, encouraging the public to learn more about symptoms and support ongoing research of the disease in order to promote and improve early detection rates;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim November 2020 as

PANCREATIC CANCER AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
