WHEREAS, massage therapy is beneficial to overall health, and consumers are spending between $6 billion and $11 billion annually on massage therapy, according to the American Massage Therapy Association; and

WHEREAS, massage therapy has become an important part of work-related stress relief and recovery from sports-related injuries, and physicians are now prescribing massage to complement traditional medical treatment for illness, injury, and pain; and

WHEREAS, therapeutic massages can boost the body's immune system and benefit people of all ages by decreasing or reducing fibromyalgia, stress, back pain, muscle injury, pain in cancer patients and/or related fatigue, arthritis, osteoarthritis of the knee, post-operative pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, blood pressure, headache frequency, alcohol withdrawal symptoms; and

WHEREAS, Massage Therapy Awareness Week provides an opportunity to raise public awareness of the potential benefits of massage therapy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of October 25 -31, 2020 as

MASSAGE THERAPY AWARENESS WEEK IN NEV ADA
