Seal of the State of Nevada

WHEREAS, Robert (Bob) A. Nylen has served the State of Nevada with distinction and professional excellence for 44 years; and

WHEREAS, Bob began his career in state service in 1976 at the Nevada Historical Society as a Research Assistant, and was then hired at the Nevada State Museum as the Registrar in 1984, becoming the first Nevada State Museum Curator of History and subsequently serving 31 years as Curator; and

WHEREAS, Bob has remained devoted to the institution of the Nevada State Museum, helping thousands of people across the state and around the country with their research queries, and has remained instrumental in the development of the Marjorie Russell Clothing and Textile Center, the Nevada State Railroad Museum, the Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas, the Carson City Blue Line Historical Tour, and various local and county museums throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, his scrupulous research, professionalism and passion for historic accuracy has fostered connections and relationships that enhanced the Nevada State Museum, including receiving the Bretzlaff Endowment, the Wells Fargo Bank Norm Blitz ‘CC’ Mint Coin Collection, the Fey Slot Machine Collection, the recovery of the stolen Abe Curry watch, and the development of the beloved Frances Humphrey Lecture Series; and

WHEREAS, under Bob’s leadership, Coin Press No. 1 was restored to service, and a program was developed to mint commemorative medallions for communities throughout the state and demonstrate the minting process for the public; and

WHEREAS, Bob’s research on the role of women workers at the mint has launched a new generation of researchers focused on the significance of women’s contributions to Nevada’s history, and his work highlighting different ethnic groups has educated the public and inspired further inquiry; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada thanks Robert A. Nylen for his leadership, devotion, public service and profound lasting impact on Nevada’s history, and offers him best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement;
