WEDNESDAY: Governor Sisolak to tour air quality monitoring sites as part of Nevada Climate Series 2022

CARSON CITY, NV – August 16, 2022

On Wednesday, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak will tour air quality monitoring sites in Reno and discuss the negative impacts wildfire smoke can have on the health of Northern Nevadans as part of his Nevada Climate Series 2022 aimed at bringing awareness to the impacts of climate change and ensuring Nevadans have the resources and knowledge to mitigate the impacts.

The Governor will tour the Washoe County Health District’s nationally-accredited air monitoring station before visiting the Greater Nevada Field, home to the Triple-A Baseball's Reno Aces, which has Purple Air monitors to measure smoke and other air pollutants.

The Reno Aces has used the monitor to advise the amount of time players may spend outdoors during daily workouts, batting practices and games. There are Purple Air sensors across Washoe County that collect data to give residents in the area real-time information about air quality through the AirNow app.

After the event, the Governor’s Office will distribute air quality handouts to help Nevadans prepare for poor air quality events.

The Governor will be joined by Greg Lovato with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Washoe County Health District Air Quality Division Director Francisco Vega, Reno Aces President Eric Edelstein and others for the event.

Media is invited to attend, please RSVP by 5 p.m. for more information.
