THURSDAY AT 3 P.M.: Governor Sisolak to host arts and crafts event with foster care children ahead of Valentine’s Day

CARSON CITY, NV - February 09, 2022

Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak will host foster families in Carson City for a special arts and crafts project ahead of Valentine’s Day.

The Governor and families will enjoy Valentine’s Day themed treats as they create customized photo frames to bring home with them. The visit was coordinated with the Washoe County human services agency / foster care program.

Families invited to the event are eligible for grant funding from the State through the newly expanded Transforming Opportunities for Toddlers and Students Grant Program, which is utilizing million in funds from the American Rescue Plan to provide grants to children with disabilities through ABLE accounts. The Interim Finance Committee allocated additional million to the program on Wednesday, including funding specifically for children with disabilities in foster care settings.

Under this program, children with disabilities can receive grants of $5,000 to use for everyday expenses such as education, transportation, housing, healthcare, assistive technology, and other disability-related expenses.

All grants awarded under this program are not required to be paid back and are intended to help Nevadans with disabilities save for a brighter future.
