Governor Sisolak orders flags lowered in honor of firefighters and first responders

CARSON CITY – October 03, 2021

Today, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to be lowered to half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds in honor of firefighters and first responders. The Governor’s executive order aligns with a Presidential Proclamation issued by President Joe Biden to lower United States flags from sunrise to sunset on October 3, 2021.

“Thousands of brave firefighters and first responders put their lives on the line every day to protect our State and nation during these catastrophic fires,” said Governor Sisolak. “The State of Nevada remains grateful for the courage and compassion shown by firefighters and first responders who heroically responded to these wildfires and who have provided aid and assistance to evacuated residents time and time again.”

More than 44,000 wildfires have burned nearly 5.3 million acres nationwide this year. Fires have taken precious lives, displaced families, destroyed businesses, and filled the air with smoke for hundreds of miles.
