WHEREAS, on October 1, 2017, terrible acts of violence were perpetrated in Las Vegas during the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival, killing 58 victims and injuring hundreds more that night, and two more victims who succumbed to their injuries in the years since; and

WHEREAS, against the backdrop of senseless tragedy, residents of the State of Nevada united in solidarity and gave meaning to the mantra “Vegas Strong” by demonstrating their extraordinary spirit of strength, compassion, and courage; and

WHEREAS, on this five-year anniversary of this tragedy, Nevadans recognize, remember and honor all of those affected; and

WHEREAS, Nevadans mourn with the friends, family, and loved ones of the victims who were killed in the devastating attack and share the sorrow of those suffering from physical and emotional scars in its aftermath; and

WHEREAS, we remember and honor the members of law enforcement organizations, first responders, and individuals from all walks of life who provided aid and assistance in countless ways during our time of need; and

WHEREAS, through our grief, we reflect on the outpouring of kindness and support received from fellow Americans and communities worldwide, and we express our heartfelt gratitude to all those who helped us become “Vegas Stronger;” and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: “The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada;” and

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and the laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered that:

The flags of the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds from sunrise to sunset on October 1, 2022 in remembrance and honor of the lives lost in the tragic shooting that occurred in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017.
