EXECUTIVE ORDER 2022-04

ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF STAFF

HONORING THE ONE MILLION AMERICANS
WHO LOST THEIR LIVES TO COVID-19

WHEREAS, as of May 12, 2022, more than 1,000,000 Americans have died from the COVID-19 virus; and

WHEREAS, as of May 12, 2022, more than 10,000 Nevadans have died from the COVID-19 virus; and

WHEREAS, this historic loss of life has impacted families throughout Nevada; and

WHEREAS, we as a State remember and honor those lost and acknowledge their loved ones left behind; and

WHEREAS, we remember those lost to COVID-19 so that we can begin to heal, unite, and find common purpose to defeat this pandemic together; and

WHEREAS, the President of the United States has directed the flag of the United States be displayed at half-­staff until sunset on May 16, 2022, at federal government buildings; and

WHEREAS, Article 5 Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds immediately until sunset on May 16, 2022.
