
EXECUTIVE ORDER
ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF STAFF
WHEREAS, the men and women who serve as law enforcement officers in the State of Nevada and throughout the United States put their lives on the line every day to keep the peace, enforce our laws, and provide help in times of emergency and crisis;
WHEREAS, the President of the United States has proclaimed the week of May 9, 2021, through May 15, 2021, as National Police Week; and
WHEREAS, the President of the United States has proclaimed May 15, 2021, as Peace Officers Memorial Day, to honor all law enforcement officers and remember those who have been killed in the line of duty throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, the President of the United States has directed that the flag of the United States be displayed at half-staff on May 15, 2021, at federal government buildings, and has invited Governors of the fifty states to join in this national observance; and
WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."
NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:
The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all state public buildings and grounds on Saturday, May 15, 2021, from sunrise to sunset, in honor of all law enforcement officers and to remember those who have been killed in the line of duty in the State of Nevada and throughout the United States.
