EXECUTIVE ORDER 2021-13 (Amended)

HONORING NEVADA'S PEACE OFFICERS

WHEREAS, the men and women who serve as law enforcement officers in the State of Nevada and throughout the United States put their lives on the line every day to keep the peace, enforce our laws, and provide help in times of emergency and crisis; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony, honoring Nevada peace officers who have been killed in the line of duty, was held Thursday May 6, 2021, and the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada were lowered to half-staff pursuant to the Governor's Executive Order 2021-12; and

WHEREAS, the President of the United States has proclaimed the week of May 9, 2021, through May 15, 2021, as National Police Week; and

WHEREAS, on May 7, 2021, the President of the United States proclaimed May 15, 2021 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, to honor all law enforcement officers and remember those who have been killed in the line of duty throughout the United States, and ordered that the flag of the United States be lowered to half-staff; and

WHEREAS, Armed Forces Day is observed on the third Saturday in May, which this year falls on May 15, 2021; and

WHEREAS, on May 14, 2021, the President of the United States issued a new proclamation ordering that the flag of the United States must remain at full staff on May 15, 2021 in honor of Armed Forces Day; and

WHEREAS, Nevadans recognize and honor the service and sacrifices of both our law enforcement officers and our members of the Armed Forces; and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall remain at full staff at the State Capitol and all state public buildings and grounds on Saturday, May 15, 2021, in honor of Armed Forces Day; and

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all state public buildings and grounds on Sunday, May 16, 2021, from sunrise to sunset, in honor of all law enforcement officers and to remember those who have been killed in the line of duty in the State of Nevada and throughout the United States.
