EXECUTIVE ORDER

ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF STAFF HONORING THE 500,000 AMERICANS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES TO COVID-19

WHEREAS, as of February 22, 2021, more than 500,000 Americans have died from the COVID-19 virus; and

WHEREAS, more Americans have perished in a single year from this pandemic than in World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War combined; and

WHEREAS, this enormous loss of life has impacted families throughout the nation; and

WHEREAS, we as a Nation and as a State remember and honor those lost and acknowledge their loved ones left behind; and

WHEREAS, we remember those lost to COVID-19 so that we can begin to heal, to unite, and to find purpose to defeat this pandemic together;

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada, and pursuant to the Proclamation issued by President Joseph R. Biden on February 22, 2021, and pursuant to section 7 of title 4 of the United States Code, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds until sunset on February 26, 2021, in honor of the 500,000 Americans who have lost their lives to COVID-19.
