
EXECUTIVE ORDER 2021-03
ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF STAFF HONORING SHELDEN ADELSON
WHEREAS, on January 11, 2021, Sheldon Adelson passed away at the age of 87; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Adelson was an example of the American Dream: he rose from very humble beginnings to prominence as an entrepreneur, a builder, and a philanthropist; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Adelson brought international conventions to Las Vegas, created the first convention center and resort complex on the Strip, and helped to transform Las Vegas into a business destination; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Adelson and his family have created many charitable programs, including programs for the hungry, support for Nevada's universities and schools, founding addiction clinics, and generously giving to other causes; and
WHEREAS, when many businesses had to close or reduce capacity due to the coronavirus pandemic, Mr. Adelson committed to keeping all his Las Vegas employees paid and insured, which helped to keep thousands of Nevadans afloat during the most difficult of months;
NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada, and pursuant to section 7 of title 4 of the United States Code, it is hereby ordered as follows:
The flag of the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds from sunrise until sunset on January 15, 2021, in honor of Sheldon Adelson.
