Governor Lombardo Announces Tool Derived from Data-Sharing Partnership with Bureau of Land Management to Support Nevada Land Planning
CARSON CITY, Nev. — In partnership with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Nevada, Governor Joe Lombardo today unveiled a publicly available interactive tool to bolster coordination, planning, and information sharing about federal lands that may be available for disposal across Nevada.
This tool, which is a product of the April 2025 data sharing agreement between the Governor's Office, via the Nevada Division of Minerals (NDOM), and BLM Nevada, compiles land use data sets pertaining to federal land disposal and development into a web based interactive Geographic Information Systems (GIS) map. With this map, federal, state, and local governments and other stakeholders can better identify and track information related to federal land use and potential surface management designations or multiple use conflicts. The partnership has streamlined efforts, cut down on duplication, and provided local stakeholders with more accurate, up-to-date information.
"With over 80 percent of Nevada's land managed by the federal government, having timely access to accurate information is essential for responsible growth and long-term planning," said Governor Joe Lombardo. "This partnership has strengthened collaboration between Nevada and the Bureau of Land Management, and ensures communities, businesses, and local governments have the information they need so they can responsibly and efficiently plan for future development."
As part of the agreement, BLM Nevada supplied data on federal land that are currently available for disposal, surface management, grazing allotments, and raw multiple use data and is working in partnership with NDOM to keep land status information up to date. NDOM built the tool with input from potential users and integrated data to not only multiple use data but also data exclusive to development including soils, slope, existing infrastructure, including roads, schools, parks, and commercial areas.
This partnership remains in place for three years, with annual reviews to keep the information in the tool current and relevant for both agencies.
