WHEREAS, Nevada supports prevention, early intervention, postvention, and crisis services in supporting and improving the mental, physical, and behavioral health of all Nevadans; and

WHEREAS, Nevada residents should be able to access high quality prevention, support, rehabilitation, and treatment services that lead to recovery and a healthy lifestyle; and

WHEREAS, suicide is the second leading cause of death amongst people aged 10 - 34 and the 9th leading cause of death in Nevada; and

WHEREAS, education about the signs of suicide and invitations for help, the community effects of mental health and substance use problems, the significant value of prevention, and the best methods to support those in need is essential to our community; and

WHEREAS, sharing personal knowledge and lived experience of mental health challenges reduces the barriers and shame related with individuals seeking treatment to thrive and live a longer, more fulfilling life; and

WHEREAS, July 16, 2022, 988 National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline was launched in Nevada, connecting those experiencing a mental health, substance use or suicide crisis with trained crisis counselors; with help there is hope; and

WHEREAS, the week of September 4-10, 2022, is National Suicide Prevention Week, and September 2022 is National Suicide Prevention and National Recovery Month, when millions of people around the world join their voices to raise awareness that prevention is possible; treatment is effective; and people do recover; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention continues to coordinate the collaborative efforts of community partners in development and implementation of evidence-based suicide prevention, intervention and postvention strategies

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of September 2022, as

SUICIDE PREVENTION MONTH IN NEVADA
