WHEREAS, the American Red Cross has helped American people and citizens of the Silver State prepare for and respond to disasters for more than a century; and

WHEREAS, in 2021, local Red Cross Northern Nevada and Southern Nevada chapters responded to 362 emergencies and helped 1,664 individuals throughout Nevada. This included response to home fires as well as the larger Tamarack and Caldor Fires. In addition, they aided thousands of people elsewhere in the U.S. and overseas; and

WHEREAS, emergency messaging and critical community services were provided by the local Red Cross chapters to 1,103 Nevada families whose loved ones were serving our nation in the U.S. Armed Forces; and

WHEREAS, through the efforts of the local Red Cross, approximately 443 Nevada homes were made safer and approximately 2,534 Nevada residents received training in disaster preparedness; and

WHEREAS, last year in the Silver State, 122,527 blood donors provided blood through the Red Cross, helping patients recover from illness and injury; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada recognizes the American Red Cross and it's 1,810 active volunteers in Nevada as hometown heroes for generously donating their time and talents to serve our residents, and encourages all Nevadans to donate blood and improve their emergency preparedness by taking advantage of local Red Cross educational opportunities; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of March 2022, as

RED CROSS MONTH IN NEVADA
