WHEREAS, the first week in April is recognized as "National Walking Week," to highlight the many benefits of walking; and

WHEREAS, studies have shown that recreational walking 30 minutes a day provides proven benefits to physical health for the heart, joints and muscles. Walking mitigates the impacts of aging and research suggests that daily brisk walking can help prevent type II diabetes, breast cancer and heart disease; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the many health benefits, walking is integral to enjoying Nevada’s many natural and cultural assets, which enhance the quality of life for residents; and

WHEREAS, our walkable communities and trails make Nevada a better place to live and work; and

WHEREAS, walking builds community and can be beneficial to developing human connection by providing an opportunity to engage in companionship and fellowship; and

WHEREAS, walking provides opportunities for individuals to make spiritual connections to one’s surroundings and can be source of mental tranquility; and

WHEREAS, during Walking Week in Nevada, I encourage Nevadans to walk safely with family and friends in their communities to experience both the physical and mental benefits of walking;
