
WHEREAS, the week of April 4-8, 2022, is the 26th Annual National Cancer Registrars Week and the theme is "Cancer Registrars: Enhance Cancer Care One Data Point at a Time”; and
WHEREAS, this special week provides a unique opportunity for Nevadans to recognize the contributions and the important role cancer registrars play in capturing the data that inform epidemiological research, cancer control, public health program planning, and patient care; and
WHEREAS, cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, and the second leading cause of death among Nevadans, only second to heart disease; and
WHEREAS, tracking cancer is a vital and difficult task. Cancer Registrars are data information specialists that capture a complete history, diagnosis, treatment, and health status for every cancer patient in Nevada and the U.S.; and
WHEREAS, Cancer Registrars throughout Nevada work closely with researchers, healthcare providers, physicians, and public health officials to better monitor, track, and advance cancer treatments, conduct research and improve cancer prevention and screening programs; and
WHEREAS, information gathered and curated by Cancer Registrars in the Silver State is reported to the Nevada Central Cancer Registry, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Cancer Institute to monitor the cancer burden throughout Nevada and the nation; and
WHEREAS, we celebrate the progress made against this disease; we commit to preventing cancer, improving treatments and the delivery of care, promoting early detection, and finding a cure; and
WHEREAS, all citizens of Nevada are encouraged to recognize and appreciate the invaluable and dedicated contributions of cancer registrars;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of April 4 - 8, 2022, as
NATIONAL CANCER REGISTRARS WEEK IN NEVADA
