WHEREAS, Local Quilt Shop Day is an annual arts celebration observed this year on Saturday, January 22, 2022, and was created to raise awareness about the importance of independent quilt shops to local economies throughout the State of Nevada and the country as a whole; and

WHEREAS, the Silver State is home to over 38 local quilt shops providing fabric, necessities and access to clubs focused on the rich tradition of quilting; and

WHEREAS, the textile arts produced by Nevada’s quilters beautifully reflect their values, beliefs, and lifestyles in unique and personal ways, often portraying the authentic character of urban and rural communities across the State, passed down in families and preserved in community archives as a testimonial to the vital role that everyday arts play in the lives of all people; and

WHEREAS, when the entire world seemed to rip apart due to the pandemic, quilters and seamstresses - with the support of their local quilt shops - tirelessly labored to stitch their communities back together. Indeed, many spent countless hours under sewing machine lights creating tens of thousands of face masks to protect healthcare and front-line workers; and

WHEREAS, local quilt shops embody the beating heart of sewing communities worldwide. Without local quilt stores, the rich character and even the history of our communities would be forever altered; and

WHEREAS, on Local Quilt Shop Day in Nevada, it is fitting to celebrate their efforts and contributions to our State and encourage Nevadans to explore their creative pursuits and support a local quilt shop and the communities that they serve;
