Seal of the State of Nevada

WHEREAS, Hundreds of thousands of Nevadans struggle with hunger; and

WHEREAS, in 2021, approximately one in seven Nevadans didn't know where their next meal was coming from; and

WHEREAS, in 2021, nearly 364,000 Southern Nevada residents were food insecure, including 131,000 children; and

WHEREAS, more than 110,000 Northern Nevadans are food insecure, including nearly 35,000 children; and

WHEREAS, Nevada is one of the top 10 states in the country with the highest rate of food insecurity among seniors; and

WHEREAS, Food is a basic need that must be accessible to all humans to ensure our bodies receive the nutrition and energy it needs to sustain life; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is committed to working with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and Three Square Food Bank in educating people about the role and importance of food banks in addressing hunger and raising awareness of the need to devote more resources and attention to hunger issues;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of September 2022, as

HUNGER ACTION MONTH IN NEVADA
