WHEREAS, advance healthcare directives are available which allow Nevadans to make their health care wishes known if they are unable to communicate those wishes themselves, however many Nevadans are unaware of their availability and do not have the appropriate conversations with their loved ones and health care providers to share their intentions; and

WHEREAS, on Healthcare Decisions Day, national, State, and community organizations are committed to ensuring that all adults with decision-making capacity in the United States have the information and opportunity to communicate and document their end-of-life health care decisions; and

WHEREAS, the goals of designating a Healthcare Decisions Day are to raise awareness about the issue and to encourage hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, continuing care retirement communities, and hospice facilities to participate in a statewide effort to provide clear and consistent information to the public about advance directives and increase the number of Nevadans who have an advance healthcare directive; and

WHEREAS, I encourage all Nevadans to have conversations with their loved ones about their health care wishes and to plan to make those wishes known to ensure that more families and health care providers will know the wishes of the individual;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the day of April 16, 2022, as

HEALTHCARE DECISIONS DAY
