Seal of the State of Nevada

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada joins with local law enforcement, victims' rights organizations, Nevada residents, Marsy's Law for Nevada, the Office for Victims of Crime, and U.S. Department of Justice, to call for support of victims of crime; and

WHEREAS, National Crime Victims' Rights Week serves to recognize the needs of crime victims and the importance of securing their voice and rights; and

WHEREAS, the sentiment is embodied in this year's theme, "Rights, access, equity, for all victims," as it focuses our thoughts on remembering the well-being and rights of all victims of crime; and

WHEREAS, the most recent Nevada State Police crime tally of "Violent Crimes" including murder, rape, and robbery indicates more than 13,000 violent crimes investigated statewide and more than 30,000 cases of domestic violence, and more than 10,000 cases of crimes against the elderly in 2021; and

WHEREAS, victims of all ages, races, and socio-economic status are among the list of victimized. Nevada law, as approved in 2018 with Marsy's Law for Nevada, provides for constitutionally protected requirements, including but not limited to, the right to be treated with fairness and respect throughout the criminal justice process, to be notified of a defendant's impending release and be protected from the defendant, to receive notice of all public proceeding, to be reasonably heard at proceedings; and

WHEREAS, the Silver State applauds the work of life-changing advocacy organizations across Nevada, law enforcement, judicial leaders, and citizens who stand up for the rights of victims and help them rebuild their lives after being victimized; and

WHEREAS, as the Governor of Nevada, I stand with community partners, citizens, law enforcement, and civic leaders across Nevada and nationwide to recognize the importance of providing protections and support for victims of crime;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of April 24 - 30, 2022, as

CRIME VICTIMS’ RIGHTS WEEK IN NEVADA
