Seal of the State of Nevada

WHEREAS, all children deserve safe, healthy and protective environments that are free from neglect, physical, sexual, verbal or emotional abuse where they can develop and thrive; and

WHEREAS, we recognize that our children are integral to the Silver State's future success and prosperity, and we acknowledge that they are also some of the most vulnerable members of our communities; and

WHEREAS, child abuse is a serious problem affecting every segment of our community. In State fiscal year 2021, 34,363 reports were made to the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services Division of Child Protective Services; and

WHEREAS, often, the devastating effects of child abuse go beyond the immediate trauma and lasts well into adulthood. Studies have shown that victims of childhood abuse are at high-risk for chronic mental and physical health issues and may go on to continue the cycle of abuse with children under their own care; and

WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention strategies in Nevada have more successful outcomes when partnerships are created between child welfare professionals, education, health, community and faith-based organizations, businesses, law enforcement agencies, caregivers, and families; and

WHEREAS, child abuse prevention is everyone's responsibility, and our communities must make every effort to promote programs and activities that create strong and thriving children and families; and

WHEREAS, we recognize that we must continue to work together as citizens, communities, and organizations to positively impact child safety and well-being; and

WHEREAS, we will continue to engage Nevadans by promoting awareness about child abuse and help our communities prioritize the social and emotional well-being of our children and families in safe, stable, and nurturing environments;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2022, as
