WHEREAS, autism is a complex developmental disorder impacting the social, communication and behavior skills of those touched by it; and

WHEREAS, autism affects people regardless of race, religion, socio-economic status or geography. Autism also impacts individual’s families and communities; and

WHEREAS, as more healthcare professionals become proficient in diagnosing autism, more children are being diagnosed on the autism spectrum, resulting in rates as high as 1 in 44 children nationally; and

WHEREAS, while there is no cure for autism, it is well documented that if individuals with autism receive early and intensive treatment, they lead significantly improved lives; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada continues to take critical steps to provide resources, assistance and support for children and families affected by autism through public initiatives, and with the dedicated unwavering efforts of community and educational organizations and institutions; and

WHEREAS, individuals with autism often require a lifetime of specialized and community support services to ensure their health and safety and to support families' resilience as they manage the psychological and financial responsibilities autism can present; and

WHEREAS, Autism Awareness Month aims to promote awareness, inclusion, and educate community members about autism and the importance of having access to essential resources, supports, and opportunities that make a difference;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2022, as

AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
