WHEREAS, service to others is a hallmark of the American character and throughout Nevada’s history, citizens have joined together to overcome challenges and contribute to vibrant and strong communities; and

WHEREAS, national service inspires and engages citizens to participate in civic affairs that affect their communities, encourages collaboration and partnership, and leverages volunteers and citizens in service to increase the effectiveness of their initiatives; and

WHEREAS, AmeriCorps in Nevada is among a network of national service programs that empower citizens to strengthen education, economic opportunity, environmental stewardship, veteran and military families, disaster services and healthy futures; and

WHEREAS, in Nevada, 1,600 AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors members inclusive of age, ability, and backgrounds serve at 200 local sites while earning education awards; and

WHEREAS, AmeriCorps Week is an opportunity to recognize the dedication and commitment of the more than one million Americans and their community partners who serve their country, and to encourage more Americans to follow their footsteps in service across the nation and in the great State of Nevada;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of March 13 - 19, 2022, as

AMERICORPS WEEK IN NEVADA
