WHEREAS, sterile processing professionals are responsible for processing surgical instruments, supplies and equipment; and

WHEREAS, sterile processing professionals serve in settings ranging from hospitals to ambulatory surgical centers to outpatient facilities and provide support for patient care services; and

WHEREAS, sterile processing department tasks include decontaminating, cleaning, processing, assembling, sterilizing, storing, and distributing the medical devices and supplies needed for patient care; and

WHEREAS, the sterile processing department of a healthcare facility is the heart of all activity surrounding instruments, supplies and equipment required for operating rooms, endoscopy suites, intensive care units, birth centers and other patient care areas; and

WHEREAS, sterile processing professionals play a critical role in patient care arenas, and are responsible for first-line processes to prevent patient infections; and

WHEREAS, despite the challenges facing the profession, Sterile Processing Week recognizes the many contributions Silver State sterile processing professionals make to enhance patient safety;
