WHEREAS, this year's Social Work Month theme "Social Workers are Essential", embodies the heroic contributions of the Social Work profession to our State, evidenced by the support they have provided to children, individuals, families, and communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic; and

WHEREAS, Social Workers in Healthcare serving on the frontlines during the pandemic have provided crisis intervention, support, and hope to the patients and loved ones facing uncertain outcomes and substantial grief; and

WHEREAS, Social Workers are one of the largest groups of mental health care providers in the United States and work daily to help people overcome substance use disorders and mental illnesses, which has been exacerbated by the pandemic; and

WHEREAS, Social Workers serving in child welfare have risked their own health during this pandemic, to ensure the safety and well-being of Nevada's children, which includes responding to and assessing reports of abuse and neglect; and

WHEREAS, Social Workers have and continue to play a crucial role in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Nevada, especially in the areas of healthcare, child welfare, mental health, education, and in supporting other vulnerable populations;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim March 2021 as

SOCIAL WORK MONTH
