
WHEREAS, the Nevada Legislature has proclaimed that pupils are the most vital resource to the future of this State; and
WHEREAS, school social workers in the state of Nevada and across the nation serve as vital members of the educational team, playing a central role in creating a positive school climate and vital partnerships between the home, school, and community to ensure student academic success; and
WHEREAS, school social workers are especially skilled in providing services to students who face serious challenges including mental health concerns, trauma, abuse, addiction, poverty, bullying, disabilities, discrimination, and other barriers to learning; and
WHEREAS, school social workers bring together students, teachers, parents, school administrators, and pupil services teams along with professional and community resources, to help students realize their fullest potential in becoming educated and contributing members of society; and
WHEREAS, school social workers advocate for schools, families, children, and youth in the legislative arena by supporting proposals to promote a positive school climate, prevent bullying, improve programs for at-risk children and youth, and support the academic success of all students; and
WHEREAS, school social workers throughout this state have played a vital role in supporting students, families, and educators in responding to and facing the unique challenges brought on by the dual pandemics of Covid-19 and systemic racial injustice
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of March 7-13, 2021 as
SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK WEEK IN NEVADA
