WHEREAS, all children have the right to a supportive reading environment providing access to print and digital texts that mirror their individual life experiences, provide windows into the lives of others, expand knowledge, and open doors into our diverse world; and

WHEREAS, Nevada's primary responsibility is to ensure that every student graduates with the literacy skills needed to reach their full personal, social, and educational potential; and

WHEREAS, our state is committed to supporting effective reading instruction across all levels of education and recognizes educators who work tirelessly to prioritize literacy development for their students; and

WHEREAS, Nevada Reading Week encourages students to read widely and celebrates the pivotal role that reading plays in empowering all Nevadans to participate fully in our communities and contribute to the economic future of the Silver State

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of March 1-5, 2021 as

NEVADA READING WEEK
