
WHEREAS, more than 593 Nevadans and nearly 100,000 people in the US are currently in need of an organ transplant; and
WHEREAS, of those waiting in Nevada, nearly 60% are of multicultural descent; and
WHEREAS, one heroic donor has the power to save up to 8 lives through organ donation and provide the gift of healing to 75 others through cornea and tissue donation; and
WHEREAS, waiting list candidates that are African American, Hispanic and Asian/Pacific Islander often wait twice as long as Caucasian patients because their matches are harder to come by, which is why it is critical that more people register; and
WHEREAS, every person, regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity, or economic status, has the power and the potential to transform a life through organ, eye, and tissue donation; and
WHEREAS, registering as an organ, eye and tissue donor at a local Department of Motor Vehicles location or online signifies our fundamental human responsibility to help others;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of August, 2021, as
NATIONAL MINORITY DONOR AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
