
WHEREAS, Influenza Vaccination Week in Nevada provides an opportunity to educate and encourage all eligible Nevadans to receive their annual flu shot; and
WHEREAS, flu vaccines are available for those age six months and older; and
WHEREAS, complications of influenza can lead to hospitalization and death among vulnerable populations, such as those with chronic health conditions, children younger than two years old, and pregnant people; and
WHEREAS, influenza viruses are highly contagious and constantly changing, making it vital for individuals to receive a flu shot every year; and
WHEREAS, vaccines are an effective and proven method of helping to prevent the most serious effects of influenza; and
WHEREAS, during the 2019-2020 flu season, there were 1,641 hospitalizations and 61 deaths in Nevada associated with influenza; and
WHEREAS, through the efforts of partners statewide, influenza vaccination coverage has increased over the past three years; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada encourages everyone over the age of six months to receive their flu vaccine to protect their health and well-being and also the health of communities statewide;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of December 5 - 11, 2021, as
INFLUENZA VACCINATION WEEK IN NEVADA
