
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting our State; and
WHEREAS, based on recent data, home fires proved fatal to more than 2,770 people and fire departments responded to approximately 339,500 home fires across the United States; and
WHEREAS, in the event of a fire, smoke alarms sense smoke well before you can, alerting you to danger, in which your household may have as little as 2 minutes to escape safely;
WHEREAS, in the Silver State, it is the responsibility of all residents to make certain everyone in the home understands the sounds of the alarms and knows how to respond to them appropriately; and
WHEREAS, data shows that residents who have planned and practiced a home fire escape plan are more prepared, and are more likely to survive a fire; and
WHEREAS, Nevada’s first responders are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires and home fire injuries through awareness, prevention and protection education; and
WHEREAS, the 2021 Fire Prevention Week theme, “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety”, effectively serves to remind all of us the importance of being able to distinguish between the different sounds of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and how to respond accordingly; and
WHEREAS, the people of Nevada are encouraged to "Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety" for Fire Prevention Week 2021 and to support the many public safety activities and efforts of Nevada’s fire and emergency services;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of October 3-9, 2021, as
FIRE PREVENTION WEEK IN NEVADA
