WHEREAS, Palisa Sturgis has served the State of Nevada with distinction and professional excellence for 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Palisa graduated from Southern University in 1989 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, and she later graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2010 with a Master’s Degree in Social Work; and

WHEREAS, Palisa began her career in state service as a Medicaid Service Specialist I with the Nevada Welfare Division in 1990, which later became the Division of Health Care Financing and Policy, where Palisa remained until her retirement; and

WHEREAS, during her tenure, Palisa was integral to the establishment of the Facility Outreach and Community Integration Services Unit, and subsequently the Money Follows the Person Demonstration Grant, both of which are designed to give Nevadans in long term care institutions opportunities to live in the community, fostering improved quality of life while achieving greater independence; and

WHEREAS, Palisa’s professionalism, unwavering dedication, and tireless advocacy are highly respected by the people she has served while working at the Department of Health and Human Services, exemplifying care, compassion, and commitment to Nevada’s most vulnerable residents; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada commends Palisa Sturgis for her years of service to the citizens and visitors of our great state and offers best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim January 4, 2021, as a day in honor of
