
WHEREAS, Ms. Juliana Urtubey holds a Bachelor of Arts in Bilingual Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Special Bilingual Education from the University of Arizona and has been a teacher for 11 years; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Urtubey is a National Board-Certified Teacher and is proudly serving as a hybrid instructor at Booker Elementary School in Las Vegas where she is a co-teacher in pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade education settings and as an instructional strategist developing school-wide Multi-Tiered System of Supports for academic, social-emotional, and behavioral interventions; and
WHEREAS, the National Teacher of the Year program identifies exceptional teachers across the county, and Nevadans statewide are very proud that they have been able to identify the amazing work that is carried by our educators right here at home in the Silver State; and
WHEREAS, this is the first time that one of Nevada’s very own educators will have this outstanding recognition bestowed upon them at the national level; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Urtubey is the first Latinx Nevada State Teacher of the Year since 1992 and is proud to represent Latinx students and educators throughout the country; and
WHEREAS, despite the challenges posed to educators throughout the course of the last 14 months due to the pandemic, Ms. Urtubey has nevertheless persevered and strived for excellence in education and has set an example for all of Nevada’s educators; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada congratulates Ms. Urtubey for reaching this incredible milestone and we look forward to the outstanding contributions she will continue to make in the lives of Nevadan students for years to come; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the day of May 6, 2021, as
