
WHEREAS, the month of October has been recognized on an annual basis as Arts and Humanities Month by thousands of arts and cultural organizations, communities, and states across the country; and
WHEREAS, the arts and humanities embody much of the accumulated wisdom, intellect, and imagination of humankind; and
WHEREAS, the arts and
humanities enhance and enrich the lives of every resident of the Silver State;
and
WHEREAS, the arts and
humanities play a unique role in the lives of our families, communities, and
country through individual and community traditions and active creativity; and
WHEREAS, Nevada – through the
Nevada Arts Council and Nevada Humanities representing hundreds of cultural
organizations – has celebrated the value and importance of culture in the lives
of Nevadans and the health and thriving communities during Arts and Humanities
Month; and
WHEREAS, the arts and humanities industry strengthen our economy by generating $8.7 billion in total economic activity annually, making up 5.5% of Nevada’s GDP and supporting more than 40,900 Nevada workers, according to the Nevada Arts Council; and
WHEREAS, over the past several years during Arts and Humanities Month, cities and states – through their local and state arts agencies and representing thousands of cultural organizations – have celebrated the value and importance of culture in the lives of Americans, and we encourage Nevadans to do the same during October;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim
ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH IN NEVADA
